Schouten Europe has snapped up fellow Dutch meat- and seafood-alternatives producer Bobeldijk Food Group.
Family-owned Schouten Europe said it acquired Bobeldijk Food Group to boost its production capacity and “strengthen” its position in the region.
“The market is developing quickly, and customers are looking for partners that combine innovation, quality, flexibility and reliable supply,” CEO Niek-Jan Schouten told Just Food.
“With Bobeldijk, we add extra production capacity, knowledge, experience and craftsmanship in plant-based products. This gives us more flexibility and decisiveness towards customers and creates a stronger foundation for further growth.”
Headquartered in Deventer, Bobeldijk transitioned from its butchery roots to exclusively plant-based and vegetarian lines in 2020. The company, which generates €20m ($22.6m) in annual sales, focuses on private label and supplies retail and foodservice customers.
Schouten Europe, which generates roughly €45m in annual sales, supplies private-label products to retail outlets, the foodservice sector and food manufacturers.
The acquisition gives Schouten Europe a “broader base” to support customers internationally, Mr Schouten said.
“We are not singling out specific countries at this stage but the added capacity and flexibility will benefit our international customer base,” he added.
Mr Schouten declined to comment on how many Bobeldijk staff would join Schouten Europe.
“Schouten Europe buys plant-based peer Bobeldijk Food Group ” was originally created and published by Just Food, a GlobalData owned brand.
