We first learned how to bend and snap in 2001, and fight for what’s right in a courtroom thanks to the one and only Elle Woods. Reese Witherspoon brought the fashionable lawyer to life, and since then, fans have been fed with several movies and, now, a TV show, that expanded on Elle’s story.
As we prepare to watch Elle, Prime Video’s upcoming prequel series, Hollywood Life has listed all the Legally Blonde films, series and other continuations of Elle’s story below!
Legally Blonde
In 2001, a star was born. Based on the book of the same name by Amanda Brown, the film follows Witherspoon’s Elle, the fashion student at CULA who seems to have it all: the perfect boyfriend, sorority, friends and undergrad life, until her man, Warner, dumps her because she’s not “serious” enough for him.
So, Elle heads over to Harvard Law, where she discovers that she’s on a path to something so much better than just a bonehead boyfriend.
The film also stars Luke Wilson as Emmett Richmond, Selma Blair as Vivian Kensington, Matthew Davis as Warner Huntington III, Victor Garber as Professor Aaron Callahan, Jennifer Coolidge as Paulette Bonafonté, Holland Taylor as Professor Elspeth Stromwell and Ali Larter as Brooke Taylor-Windham.
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde
The 2003 sequel, Red, White & Blonde, brings Elle back even bolder! Before marrying Emmett, whom she meets in the first film, Elle wants her dog, Bruiser, to reunite with his mother. But Elle discovers that cosmetic testing on animals is a huge problem.
After getting fired from her law firm, Elle leaves Boston for Washington, D.C., to lobby “Bruiser’s Bill,” while working for a congresswoman.
Legally Blondes
Legally Blondes was a direct-to-video film starring Milly and Becky Rosso as Elle Woods’s British twin cousins, who move to Southern California after Elle settles into her D.C. life. While attending an exclusive prep school, the twins encounter chaos with their classmates and must try to hide the fact that they’re under partial scholarships.
Elle
The Prime Video series, which drops on July 1, 2026, follows a 16-year-old Elle Woods as she moves from sunny L.A. to rainy Seattle, where her personality clashes with the local students.
Starring Lexi Minetree as the younger Elle, the show is anchored by June Diane Raphael as Eva Woods, Elle’s mother, Tom Everett Scott as Wyatt Woods, Elle’s father, Chandler Kinney as Kimberly, Jacob Moskovitz as Miles, Gabrielle Policano as Liz and Zac Looker as Dustin.
Legally Blonde 3
Sadly, Legally Blonde 3 never got its wheels moving, but there have been multiple attempts. In 2020, Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor signed on to write the script for the third installment. Witherspoon was expected to reprise her role as Elle.
