It takes a lot for an email subject line to be so gripping that it completely derails my workday, leaving me unable to think about literally anything else. But it turns out that if it says “Taylor Jenkins Reid’s new book,” my entire schedule needs to be rearranged. In breaking bookish news, Taylor Jenkins Reid has announced her first novel since the release of her latest bestseller, Atmosphere—and this time, she’s taking readers to the 1970s. When her catalog is basically just a regurgitated list of my Goodreads five-star reads (Daisy Jones & The Six, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Carrie Soto Is Back…), it’s safe to say I’m thrilled about this news.

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s new book, The Last Days of Vic & Coco, follows two friends chasing their biggest score yet—and risking everything that binds them together. Ahead, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about The Last Days of Vic & Coco, including its release date, plot, and what Reid has said about the novel.

What is The Last Days of Vic & Coco about?

Victoria Lucchese and Colette Wilson have been running a pool hustle for years. The con is simple: Coco draws men in and convinces them to play against her friend, Vic. Then, Vic runs the table every single time. They’ve conned overconfident men across the country and become the closest thing either of them has to family, even though they don’t even know each other’s real names.

Now it’s the summer of 1974. Nixon is on the brink of impeachment, jobs are scarce, and Vic and Coco know their usual ruse won’t pay the bills for much longer now that word has spread about two women everyone should watch out for. So they set their sights on their biggest score yet, one that will either solve all of their money problems or cost them everything.

Readers can expect sun-drenched highways, seedy motels, dive bars, and desert landscapes as Vic and Coco live life by their own rules. They know they can’t really trust anyone…maybe not even each other. Reid said, “Vic & Coco on the road in the 70s, kicking up a lot of trouble, was an absolute blast to write. It’s my love letter to female friendship, and I stole so much from my own life for it—so I’m all the more eager to share it with readers.”

When does The Last Days of Vic & Coco come out?

As much as I want the answer to be “tomorrow,” unfortunately, we have a bit of a wait before The Last Days of Vic & Coco is actually in our hands. Taylor Jenkins Reid’s new book will be published by Atria Books on March 2, 2027, but you can pre-order it now to ensure you don’t miss it.
