Oakland Ballers to play as Blazers after April Fool’s joke turns real – SportsLogos.Net News

Things got all too real for the Oakland Ballers, an unaffiliated team in the Pioneer Baseball League, when an April Fool’s joke about a new alternate identity lit up the internet earlier this month. On April 1, the team announced on social media that they would play as the Blazers, an alternate identity “inspired by The Town’s culture, creativity, and innovation.”

They must have known the fake promotion might catch fire because the post ended with, “April Fool’s… Or should we really do this?” By the end of the day, the Ballers were living the high life, getting featured in the online magazine High Times. They promised that if their Instagram post got 420 comments, they would make the new brand a reality.

Sure enough, the Ballers rolled right up to that benchmark and beyond, announcing just a day later that the concept was “entirely too dope” and that they would indeed take the field as the Blazers this season. The team couched the announcement as an apology, declaring, “Sorry that we ruined April Fool’s Day. Even though no one likes April Fool’s Day anyways.

We don’t know yet when the Blazers will take the field this season, but merch is available on the team’s website.
