Gavin Sheets got the Padres even with a solo homer in the fifth inning and drove in two runs in a 3–for-4 performance. Fernando Tatis Jr. added an RBI knock in the seventh. Randy Vásquez, who worked in bulk relief, wore the loss after allowing seven runs, five earned, in 3.1 innings.
Right-hander Michael King (5-6) works the series finale for San Diego, entering with a 3.33 ERA and 1.163 WHIP in 16 starts and 92 innings. The Dodgers hand the ball to right-hander Emmet Sheehan (3-5), who comes in with a 5.32 ERA and 1.300 WHIP in 14 starts covering 67.2 innings while striking out 76.
