Eight years after making it to the quarter-finals in its last World Cup appearance, Sweden returns to the fold in 2026 and is out to make a bright start against Tunisia. Graham Potter’s side haven’t kept a clean sheet in more than a year, however, and hope to end that drought against a Tunisia team coming off the back of a devastating defeat.

Sabri Lamouchi has been in charge of Tunisia for less than six months and watched as his side fell 5-0 to Belgium in their final warm-up fixture ahead of the World Cup. On the plus side, the Eagles of Carthage trailed by a single goal after 53 minutes, with their plight made much more difficult by the dismissal of Ismael Ghabri.
Despite his red card, Ghabri will be available for selection in Tunisia’s World Cup opener, which is a relief to Lamouchi, who has won just one of his four games at the helm. On the plus side, he’s also reinforced Tunisia’s defense and managed two clean sheets from his four games in charge to date, which is more than Sweden can account for in its last 13 games.
A 2-2 draw against Greece last time out further underlined the kind of style Potter is looking to promote, with Premier League stars Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak starting up front. Fireworks look guaranteed if Swede can supply that duo with ammunition, while Tunisia’s top scorer in the current squad is actually Nice defender Ali Abdi.
