Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. was arrested Friday on charges of speeding and reckless driving in Georgia, ESPN confirmed with the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith, 25, was clocked at 135 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 16 in Twiggs County. He was booked into county jail, bonded out, and is set to appear in court at a future date.
The Georgia Gazette first reported the arrest.
It’s worth remembering where Smith came from – the Eagles selected him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Georgia, making this incident particularly notable given how close to home it occurred. Over his first three seasons in the league, he’s appeared in 45 games and was part of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX championship run earlier this year.
Last season specifically, Smith played in 12 games, putting up 31 total tackles, 3 sacks, and a forced fumble.
The timing is notable. Philadelphia’s OTAs kick off Thursday, meaning the story lands right as the team returns to the facility and the offseason program gets underway.
The Eagles haven’t publicly commented on the arrest.
