The Punjab government has launched the CM Punjab Green Credit Program, a new initiative aimed at encouraging households to shift toward eco-friendly, solar-powered appliances. Under this scheme, citizens can earn Green Credits valued at Rs10,000 by installing selected solar devices in their homes. The program is designed to reduce energy consumption, lower the national electricity load, and improve the province’s environmental performance.
Officials describe the scheme as an important step toward promoting renewable energy and reducing reliance on traditional power sources, which continue to put pressure on Pakistan’s already stressed power grid.
How the Green Credit System Works
The program operates on a straightforward model. When a household replaces conventional appliances with approved solar-powered appliances, it becomes eligible for one Green Credit, equal to Rs10,000. This credit acts as a government-backed reward for adopting clean energy solutions.
The current goal of the initiative is twofold:
-
Reduce electricity consumption by shifting households toward solar technologies.
-
Boost climate-friendly habits by encouraging the public to adopt energy-efficient devices.
Government officials confirmed that the Green Credit Program will eventually expand to include more environmentally friendly appliances as part of its long-term strategy.
Online Application Portal Now Active
The online registration process has been integrated into the Punjab Environment Protection Department’s (EPD) digital portal, making it easy for citizens to apply from home.
The department has initially approved three eligible solar products:
-
Solar stove
-
Solar geyser
-
Energy-efficient (low-watt) fans
To participate, users must install any one of these products and then upload proof of purchase and installation through the online application form. After the submission, a verification team visits or reviews the evidence remotely to confirm the installation. Once verified, the household receives one Green Credit worth Rs10,000.
Helpline Support for Applicants
The Environment Protection Department has also set up official helplines to assist citizens with:
-
Registration guidance
-
Document requirements
-
Verification timelines
-
Eligibility confirmation
These helpline numbers are posted on the department’s official social media channels and website. According to EPD, a large number of citizens contacted the helplines during the first week of the launch to clarify eligibility before making purchases.
More Solar Devices to Be Added Soon
Officials further confirmed that the list of approved appliances will continue to expand. The department plans to introduce additional solar-based and energy-efficient devices to maximize the program’s climate impact.
In its quarterly reports, the department will also publish detailed data showing how much electricity was saved and how households benefited from the initiative.
