Caitlin Clark did all she could to help the Indiana Fever secure an 83-71 victory over Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night to open their WNBA Commissioner’s Cup title defense with aplomb.
The Indiana Fever star produced 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists on 6-for-17 shooting from the field in 31 minutes. Clark even had to overcome a minor illness, having vomited during halftime due to a bad batch of applesauce.
Their impressive victory snapped a two-game losing streak. More importantly, it ended a drama-filled six-day stretch for the Indiana Fever, which included a heated sideline exchange between Clark and head coach Stephanie White and a team meeting to address their uneven start to the season.
“I’m gonna say this in the nicest way possible, but hopefully it makes a lot of people just be quiet. I know there’s always going to be conversation, and I totally respect that, and I always understand that, but the sky is not falling,” Clark told reporters via Chloe Peterson of IndyStar.

Indiana Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell joins illustrious WNBA club
Kelsey Mitchell was the Indiana Fever’s top scorer during their morale-boosting 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, as she finished with 25 points and two steals on 11-for-15 shooting from the field in 33 minutes.
By doing so, the three-time WNBA All-Star became the latest member of the league’s 5,000-point club, making her only the second player in Indiana Fever history to do so, joining Tamika Catchings (7,580).
Mitchell is averaging a career-high 21.1 points through the first nine games this season, which ranks third in the league. The 30-year-old has scored double-digit points in every game thus far, including four 20-point games.
