It’s about time. Just like that, we are back in business. Another MLB season has arrived, and we are in for an exciting seven months of action. After a whole offseason of preparing, all it takes is two weeks for everything to change.
While everyone loves to look forward and give predictions, no one knows what’s going to happen. That doesn’t mean we aren’t going to try to look towards the future.
With that being said, let’s take a look at five players who could be traded this MLB season.

Francisco Lindor, SS, New York Mets

Something isn’t working. Once again, Francisco Lindor is having a slow start for the New York Mets, and he’s not the only one. A big off-season makeover, partly due to Lindor, hasn’t appeared to work out, and things are going downhill fast.
From a superstar perspective, this is Juan Soto’s team, and is the clubhouse big enough for both, especially considering the disparity in their contracts?
Bo Bichette can also play shortstop, as can Ronny Mauricio. Between the Mets’ prospect depth and budget, we don’t have to worry about a rebuild if New York trades Lindor. Why not get a big return and truly start fresh, because things haven’t worked since Steve Cohen bought the Mets and Lindor was acquired?
Luis Gil, SP, New York Yankees
It’s all about accumulating starting pitcher depth. You can never have enough. Well, until you don’t. Due to off days, the New York Yankees didn’t need Luis Gil at the beginning of the season, but he’s since made two starts. In each of those starts, Gil has allowed four earned runs in each outing. As Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon work their way back, by the end of May, the Yankees will need to make space in their rotation.
Not too long ago, Gil was the American League Rookie of the Year, and he didn’t lose that talent. He’s too good to languish in the bullpen or Triple-A, so look for the Yankees to move him to improve their infield or high-leverage relievers.
Dalton Rushing, C, Los Angeles Dodgers

To say that the Los Angeles Dodgers are stacked would be an understatement. Will Smith is still entrenched behind the plate, and Rushing is too good to sit on the bench. We know that the Dodgers will decide that they need an upgrade somewhere prior to the Trade Deadline, and Rushing is a pretty large chip.
Coby Mayo, 1B/3B, Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles need some starting pitching depth, and they have an overabundance of young hitters. Despite his vast power potential, Mayo has yet to really find his groove at the big-league level in Baltimore. He’s not quite an everyday player nor is he producing; .167 average in 13 games entering action on Thursday with just four RBI and no home runs. A change of scenery is needed, so look for Mayo to be moved for some pitching.
David Peterson, SP, New York Mets

At some point, the Mets will look to bring Sean Manaea back from the bullpen into the rotation. Additionally, Jonah Tong and Christian Scott are bidding their time in Triple-A. The Mets likely won’t re-sign Peterson, who is an impending free agent, and he’s also struggling to begin the season.
