New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler told reporters Thursday at the team’s spring training camp that he is dealing with middle back inflammation in addition to a lat injury.
Schlittler will not throw off a mound for a few days as a precaution while his teammates ramp up their bullpen activities.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone characterized the injuries as minor, and Schlittler told reporters he wasn’t concerned about the long-term implications on his health.
Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt and Carlos Rodon are slated to begin the season on the injured list, putting the onus on the team’s healthy pitchers to stay that way for another six weeks until the games count.
Thursday afternoon, Schlittler posted an important update on his Twitter/X account: it’s his left (non-throwing) lat, not his right.
“Left lat** and not concerned at all,” Schlittler wrote. “Gonna be a great upcoming week!”
Why did arguably the most important Cam Schlittler injury update come out on social media, and not when reporters were in camp?
Yankees beat writer Brendan Kuty of The Athletic explained in a video posted to his Twitter/X account.
“When Cam mentioned his lat, reporters didn’t follow up with him on it. He kind of just said it so quick, it slid past everybody,” Kuty said.
It’s spring training for everyone.
