Tua Tagovailoa and his wife, Annah, are both looking to the future after the Miami Dolphins announced their intention to release the quarterback on Monday, March 9.
“To the Miami Dolphins organization, my teammates, the front office and the incredible fans – Thank you for six unforgettable years,” Tua, 28, wrote via Instagram on Monday.
He continued, “From the moment I arrived, you believed in me, supported me, and embraced my family as your own. I was able to marry my wife and welcome both my kids to this world. I was able to fortunately allow them to experience life from one I never got to growing up. Wearing this jersey and representing this city has been one of the greatest joys of my life.”
Tua has played his entire career with the Dolphins after Miami took him with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback was named a Pro Bowler in 2023, leading the league in passing yards, but was unable to lead the Dolphins to a playoff win in his tenure.
The quarterback was plagued by head injuries throughout his career, suffering four documented concussions since 2019.
The Dolphins released Tua less than two years after signing him to a massive four-year, $212 million extension.
Tua went on to thank his teammates and coaches for “the battles, the brotherhood, and the standard of excellence we tried achieving every single day.” He also shouted out Miami fans for their “energy, loyalty and passion.”
“As I prepare for the next chapter, I move forward with gratitude, faith, and memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime. South Florida will always hold a special place in my heart,” he concluded.
The comments section quickly filled with well wishers for Tua, with teammates Jaylen Waddle and Kendall Lamm sending their support. Annah jumped in as well to add her and the couple’s two kids to the list.
Tua and Annah met during their days as students at Alabama and married in 2022. They welcomed their son, Ace, that August, and their daughter, Maisie, in 2023.
“I can’t put into words how proud the babies and I are of you,” Annah wrote. “Watching you do what you love brings us so much joy. You have the biggest heart and I am so blessed to be able to walk with you through this journey! You are the best husband to me and the most incredible dad to our sweet babies. I cannot wait to watch you in this next chapter and cannot wait to cheer you on! Go get em hunny I love you! ”
