Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said Tuesday at the NFL combine that he’s talked with Kyler Murray about how last season went. But according to a source, the two haven’t actually spoken since the season ended.
That’s a pretty significant disconnect.
When asked if he’d sat down with Murray to discuss what happened last year and what the quarterback wants moving forward, Ossenfort said yes.
“Yeah, I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort said. “And I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole.”
He continued: “And, so, when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position, in all positions, but that’s what we’re all focused on, is getting better and moving forward.”
A source told ESPN otherwise.
Murray only played in five games last season. He hurt his foot in Week 5 against Tennessee and landed on injured reserve in early November. Even after he was eligible to come back from IR in early December, then-coach Jonathan Gannon announced Murray wouldn’t play the rest of the year.
Following those injuries, questions about Murray’s future with Arizona started bubbling up.
The Cardinals have about three weeks to decide if Murray’s their guy in 2026. If he’s on the active roster on the fifth day of the league year, he’s owed a guaranteed roster bonus of $19.5 million for 2027.
Ossenfort said Tuesday that conversations about Murray’s future happen “daily.”
He also repeated what he said back in January at the team’s season-ending press conference — that “all options are on the table for us” with Murray. Ossenfort pointed out that Murray, along with Jacoby Brissett and Kedon Slovis, are all under contract for 2026.
“We’re going to look at every avenue to improve, and we’re going to continue and go through our process with that,” Ossenfort said Tuesday.
