Quarterback Malik Willis has signed with the Miami Dolphins, according to sources who spoke with ESPN‘s Adam Schefter. The move comes after Willis turned his career around during two productive seasons in Green Bay.
The Dolphins released Tua Tagovailoa earlier on Monday.
Willis’s path to Miami started when Tennessee – the team that used a third-round pick on him back in 2022 – shipped him to the Packers for a seventh-rounder just before the 2024 season kicked off. At the time, it looked like another quarterback couldn’t quite make it work with the Titans.
But Green Bay gave him a real shot.
He started three games over his two years with the Packers and won two of them. What’s more impressive is the timeline – Willis won starts in Weeks 3 and 4 of the 2024 season, less than a month after joining the team. That’s not something you see often from a guy learning a new system on the fly.
The 26-year-old also stepped in during the second half of Green Bay’s win over Jacksonville when Jordan Love got hurt. Willis threw a touchdown pass in that game and led the drive that sealed the victory.
His numbers with the Packers tell the story of a quarterback who protected the ball and made smart decisions. Over 11 games (three starts), he completed an eye-popping 78.7% of his passes for 972 yards and six touchdowns. He didn’t throw a single interception in Green Bay.
Last season alone, Willis appeared in four games with one start – completing 30 of 35 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns. He added another dimension with his legs too, racking up 123 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.
Along with his arm, Willis contributed three rushing touchdowns during his time in Green Bay, showing he’s capable of making plays when the pocket breaks down.
Now he heads to Miami, where the Dolphins are looking for answers at the most important position on the field following Tagovailoa’s release.
