The NFL offseason is underway with a multitude of roster decisions to be made. Among those teams, the Dallas Cowboys have numerous to make.
The Cowboys have made a big commitment to a key playmaker on offense. It has been reported that running back Javonte Williams has agreed to a three-year contract extension.

The contract extension has a value of $24M. That’s good for an $8M average per year for the sixth year back out of North Carolina.

Williams joined the Cowboys last offseason to compete for a starting job. He answered the call with a big season in Big D.
Williams accumulated over 1,200 yards rushing–almost exceeding his last two years of production in Denver. He missed only one game and scored a total of 13 touchdowns.

He was a key part of their offense that included Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens. Pickens is also in the final year of his deal.

Dallas likely will try to get Pickens on a long-term deal, but all signs point to a franchise tag incoming. Could this move have shown their decision on a long-term commitment to Williams instead of Pickens?
