If the book girlies in your life were inconsolable this week, they had good reason. Over the weekend, rumors swirled (thanks, Deuxmoi!) that Sarah J. Maas, author of the blockbuster A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, and Crescent City series, would be a guest on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. Why is this a big deal? It’s been two years since Maas last released a book, and in July 2025, she shared on Instagram that she finished an ACOTAR draft. But since then, crickets. Seven long months later, Alex confirmed the interview in a video heard ‘round the world, teasing Maas as a guest standing in front of a bookshelf filled with her books. Now that Maas has finally dropped the big news, we’ll be hunting for clues and rereading all the way until October. Here’s everything we learned from Sarah J. Maas’s appearance on Call Her Daddy. In a nearly two-hour interview, readers heard more from Sarah J. Maas than they had in years. Based on what we’ve learned, the wait was well worth it. From what she listens to while she’s writing to what’s going on with potential adaptations and, yes, when we can expect the next ACOTAR book, Maas gave fans a lot to talk about.
When is the next ACOTAR book being released?
Let’s cut to the chase: fans can expect the sixth book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series on October 27, 2026. Do we have a cover? No. A title? No. Do we know whose POV it is? Also no. I’m not going to lie, the lack of detail with this announcement is certainly going to raise a few eyebrows. But with just a few months until release, we won’t have to wait long for more information.
What was most interesting about this announcement, however, was not the single book release coming in October. But the fact that it will be followed by another ACOTAR book on January 12, 2027… and then one more book soon after. Yes, you read that correctly, we are getting three more A Court of Thorns and Roses books—and soon.
When Maas started writing this next installment of the series, she realized it was going to be very, very long. The first part alone was over 400 pages. The entire book would end up being so long, Maas said, there isn’t a glue strong enough in the world to hold it all together. So she decided to shift away from the traditional book format. It’s not a new series; it’s one story—one arc—told in four parts, with three physical volumes. While we don’t have a final page count, Maas did reveal that the volumes would total more than 1,000 pages, which explains the three separate releases. Readers can expect part one in a single volume in October, parts two and three in a second volume in January, and an as-of-yet unwritten part four released at a later date. After the five-year drought following A Court of Silver Flames, ACOTAR fans are about to be fed.

What is the next ACOTAR book about?
…We don’t know. Maas stayed very mum when it came to divulging actual details on the upcoming ACOTAR books, but readers who have been paying attention can reasonably conclude some details. We’ve read about Feyre and Nesta in the previously released books, but have yet to dive into the third Archeron sister’s story, Elain. What we know so far is that she hasn’t taken well to Fae life, isn’t super interested in getting to know her Mate, Lucien, and seems to have set her eyes on Azriel, instead.
Elain’s journey might very well be the center of the next release, but there are a lot of storylines readers still have questions about. Mor is hiding something from the Night Court. There seems to be a spark between Azriel and Gwyn. And, crucially, the crew learned there are other worlds out there—and even met Bryce from Crescent City in House of Flame and Shadow. We saw how Bryce’s story resolved, but we have no idea how that experience reverberated throughout the Night Court. And none of this even takes into consideration the still unanswered questions readers have about the Throne of Glass series and how that universe might align with the other two. Readers have theories upon theories about Maas’s books, and with all the still unanswered questions lingering, it’s no wonder Maas has a lot more writing in her.

Can we preorder the next ACOTAR books?
Yes! Preorder listings became available almost instantly after Maas’s official announcement on Call Her Daddy. Even without titles or covers, you can still order the next two volumes so you have them the second they are released.
Is there going to be an ACOTAR adaptation?
In February 2024, Margot Robbie and Sarah J. Maas met for coffee, sending fans into a spiral wondering if it meant Robbie would be involved in an adaptation of Maas’s work. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, there’s no adaptation currently in the works. In a reveal reminiscent of Taylor Swift purchasing her masters, Maas explained she now has all of her adaptation rights back. For now, Maas is focusing on her books, but when the time comes for her stories to be adapted for the screen, she will be in total control, making sure fans get the story they deserve.
What else did we learn from Sarah J. Maas’s Call Her Daddy interview?
While we didn’t get too many details from Sarah J. Maas on the upcoming A Court of Thorns and Roses books (and we THANK her for those crumbs), Alex made sure to ask as many questions as she could in a rapid-fire portion at the end of the interview. Here’s what else we learned:
- What’s the most romantic moment in ACOTAR?: Rhys and Feyre at Starfall, which was inspired by Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love”
- Is Elain rejecting her bond with Lucien?: Unfortunately, a non-answer here. Essentially, Elain has a lot going on right now and is still processing her transition. You’ll notice a pattern with these answers. Whenever we get a little too close to a major reveal, Maas declines to answer, which bodes well for the content of the upcoming books. Will Elain end up with Lucien? Or did the Cauldron get it wrong?
- Is Tamlin getting a redemption arc?: There isn’t one planned at the moment. There are too many real-world applications of Tamlin’s abuse to make a redemption arc possible.
- Fuck, Marry, Kill: Rhys, Rowan, and Hunt: Maas struggled to answer here, and we get it. Ultimately, she and Alex agreed to put them all firmly in the “fuck” category.
- What does she listen to while writing?: Lately, she’s been inspired by the soundtrack to Robert Pattinson’s Batman. And also, K-Pop Demon Hunters—she is a mom, after all.
- Where is Vaughan?: That is something she thinks about a lot. (Throne of Glass readers, we are so up).
- What is Rhysand’s last name?: Maas dodged this question, as well. Saying Rhys is “one of one.”
- Will the Dusk Court be explored in future books?: Here, Sarah laughed and declined to answer, which I’m taking as a resounding YES.
- Is Mama Archeron an Ironteeth witch?: Another swerve. The questions definitely started getting close to some fan theories that Maas can’t say more about. With this one, she looked around for something to drink and said she needed a spicy margarita.
- Are Bryce and Hunt endgame?: Sorry, Brycriel (Bryce/Azriel) shippers, Maas confirmed that, yes, Bryce and Hunt are endgame.
- Are Rhys and Ruhn related?: Maas basically short-circuited here, which says more than any yes or no ever could.
What readers should take away from Sarah J. Maas’s Call Her Daddy interview
Alex Cooper and Sarah J. Maas covered a lot during their interview. For book readers, the highlight is the announcement, finally, of the next A Court of Thorns and Roses book. Maas revealed the next ACOTAR book is so long it won’t fit into a single book. Instead, there are four parts to the story. The first will be released in one volume on October 27, 2026 (mark your calendars!). The second volume, containing parts two and three, will be released in one volume on January 12, 2027.
