Ajinomoto Foods North America has expanded a recall of frozen chicken and pork products, bringing the total amount of food subject to recall to nearly 37 million pounds after consumers reported finding glass in the products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Monday.
The Portland, Ore.-based company added approximately 33.6 million pounds of product to an initial Feb. 19 recall, FSIS said, for a combined total of 36,987,575 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat and not-ready-to-eat chicken and pork items including fried rice, ramen and shu mai dumplings.
The agency said the company determined that carrots used as a vegetable source ingredient were the likely source of the glass contamination. No injuries from consuming the affected products have been confirmed, FSIS said, though it urged anyone concerned about an injury to contact a healthcare provider.
The expanded recall covers 16 products produced between Oct. 21, 2024, and Feb. 26, 2026, sold under the brand names Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei and Trader Joe’s. Best-by dates on affected products range from Feb. 28, 2026, through Aug. 19, 2027.
Products subject to the recall bear establishment numbers P-18356, P-18356B or P-47971 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items were distributed to retail locations nationwide, and certain Ajinomoto-branded products were also exported to Canada and Mexico.
FSIS said it is concerned that recalled products may still be sitting in consumers’ or retailers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased any of the affected items are urged not to eat them and to either discard them or return them to the point of purchase.
The recall includes products sold under the brands Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei and Trader Joe’s.
