Trent Brown is staying in Houston. The veteran offensive tackle agreed to a one-year extension with the Texans on Thursday worth up to $7 million, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus, who confirmed the deal to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.
The timing here matters – Houston’s been busy reshaping its offensive line this offseason.
The Texans recently agreed to ship starting right tackle Tytus Howard to Cleveland and sent Juice Scruggs to Detroit as part of the deal that brought running back David Montgomery to Houston. Neither trade can officially go through until Wednesday at 4 p.m., when the 2026 league year kicks off.
Brown didn’t start the season on the field. A knee injury kept him out until Week 10, but once he was healthy enough to play, the 6-foot-8, 380-pound tackle proved he’s still got it.
He started seven games for Houston last season.
From Weeks 10-16, Brown allowed just a 7.1% pressure rate at right tackle – sixth-lowest among tackles with at least 200 pass blocking reps, according to Next Gen Stats. That’s solid production from a guy who spent the first half of the season rehabbing.
The 32-year-old’s been around the league for a while now. San Francisco grabbed him in the seventh round back in 2015, and he’s appeared in 110 games (103 starts) across 11 seasons with multiple teams.
Brown made the Pro Bowl in 2019 while playing for the Raiders – proof he can perform at an elite level when he’s on the field and healthy. Houston’s clearly banking on him returning to that form as they rebuild their offensive line protection after dealing away two key pieces.
With Howard headed to Cleveland, Brown’s extension gives the Texans some much-needed experience and stability up front; they’re going to need it after trading away their former starting right tackle and Scruggs in the same offseason.
