Kirk Cousins’ time in Atlanta is soon to be over.
The Falcons will release the veteran quarterback when the league year begins on March 11, general manager Ian Cunningham told 92.9 The Game on Tuesday.
Atlanta recently restructured the four-year, $200-million contract Cousins signed ahead of the 2024 season, hinting that the release could be coming.
The 37-year-old had an up-and-down tenure with the Falcons, appearing in 24 games and being benched for Michael Penix Jr., who the the team drafted ninth overall just weeks after signing Cousins.
In 10 games last season, Cousins tossed 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. Through 14 games in 2024, he had 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
The Falcons underwent a major off-season overhaul after missing the playoffs, hiring Matt Ryan as president of football, Cunningham as GM and Kevin Stefanski as head coach.
On Monday, it was reported the Falcons planned to place the franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts.
