USA’s men’s hockey team just experienced a golden moment.
Indeed, Team USA took home the gold against Canada—their longstanding rival—during the Feb. 22 men’s hockey face-off at the 2026 Olympics in an epic 2-1 match. The win marks the team’s first win in the event since 1980.
46 years ago to the day, Team USA took down the Soviet Union in what is referred to as “Miracle on Ice.” At the time, the American team was made up of amateur college students while the Soviet Union’s side was composed of full-fledged professionals in the sport.
Fast forward nearly 50 years and Team USA’s Jack Hughes allowed Americans to celebrate once again, scoring the decisive goal that secured the historic victory.
After sweeping the puck past Canada’s goalie Jordan Binnington, USA’s hockey team joined the athlete on the ice to rejoice in the exciting moment.
“This is all about our country right now,” Jack said in a post-game interview Feb. 22. “I love the USA. I love my teammates. It’s unbelievable. The USA hockey brotherhood is so strong. And we have so much support from ex-players. And I’m so proud to be American today.”
