Team USA’s historic Winter Olympics run at Milan Cortina Games

The 2026 Winter Olympics have seen Team USA set an unprecedented mark with success across all events, and as the Milan Cortina Games near its end the Americans are still aiming for more glory.

Many hockey fans are eagerly awaiting Sunday’s men’s gold medal match against Canada. However, Team USA has already found significant success on the ice with the women’s hockey team winning gold.

On Saturday, Team USA broke its own record for the most gold medals captured at a single Winter Olympics. After securing their 11th gold (and counting), the Americans have taken huge strides in Milan Cortina.

The trio of Kaila Kuhn, Connor Curran and Chris Lillis bumped the U.S. up to its historic 11-gold medal mark. This comes during the freestyle skiing mixed team aerials event, which could set the tone for more medals over the final weekend of the Winter Olympics.

Back in 2002, the Americans held their previous record with 10 gold medals at the Salt Lake City Games. However, Team USA still has several more chances to secure gold in Milan Cortina, including with their NHL-heavy hockey team looking to upset Canada in the final.

Meanwhile, Team USA can still medal in other events like women’s curling, bobsleigh and others to build on their impressive 2026. Talented athletes like skater Alysa Liu, Elana Meyers Taylor and more have managed to put the Americans into second place in the overall medal count.
