The double touch has become one of the biggest stories in the sport of curling at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Remarkably, but was a first end double touch that contributed to a Canadian loss to Switzerland in women’s curling action on Saturday.
Setting the scene
Team Canada had an opportunity to score multiple points in the first end. However, they were limited to a single point because their stone was removed from play due to a double touch. Canadian skip Rachel Homan denied the double touch to an official, but the replay clearly showed that the double touch occurred as she touched the stone with her index finger after removing the stone.

Switzerland had a remarkable comeback
Canada seemed to be in complete control in the game. They had a 4-0 lead after three ends and a 5-2 lead after six ends. However, in the seventh end, Switzerland scored four points as Team Homan struggled mightily in protecting the lead.

Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni, who throws third stones for Switzerland, even though she is the skip, made an impressive double takeout to set up the big end. Switzerland would go on to win 8-7 in 11 ends.

It is because Sweden’s Oskar Eriksson accused Canada’s Marc Kennedy of double touching in their game on Friday. It caused significant tension between Eriksson and Kennedy, and as a result, Kennedy received a warning for his inappropriate language.
As a a result, the officials are watching the double touch very closely on all sheets throughout the remainder of the men’s and women’s curling tournaments.
Canadian women struggling mightily
Team Canada only has a record of one win and three losses in the Olympic women’s curling tournament to date. Canada has also lost 9-8 to the United States and 7-6 to Great Britain. Another loss and the three-time world champion could be eliminated.
