20 Charming Rom-Coms Worth Staying In to Watch

One of my absolute favorite things in life is a simple girls’ night in with my besties. The comfy clothes, squeezing onto a couch that’s way too small for the number of people, and an infinity table of snack setups—it’s perfect. Luckily, in the glorious era of streaming, we have a never-ending supply of content to keep us entertained between the gossip breaks and wine sips. And what pairs better with all of that iconic femme energy than an iconic rom-com?

Beyond the classics we already know and love, we’ve been gifted some seriously amazing originals over the past couple of years—especially some very overlooked gems that deserve way more love and laughs than our algorithms gave them. If you’re planning your own girls’ night for Galentine’s or just need a romantic watch amidst this season of love, we’re sharing 20 of the best rom-coms to stream, and exactly where to watch them.

1. Splitsville

Stream on Hulu

On the verge of divorce, a couple does what seems like the only way to fix their relationship: they open it. Naturally, things get… complicated… once their friends get dragged into the mix. The result is a raunchy rom-com that’s a laugh-out-loud good time. But it also dives into the real, messy complexities of what loving someone in our modern world actually looks like. Honestly, it was one of my favorite films I watched last year, and if you also love emotionally layered rom-coms, sprinkled with a little chaos, it should absolutely be at the top of your watchlist. Oh, and did I mention Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona are in it?

2. The Wedding Banquet

Stream on Paramount+

Whoever decided to put Bowen Yang in a rom-com absolutely knew their target audience—me. This hidden gem was only released last year and annoyingly received far less noise than it deserved, so consider this my personal campaign for justice. The story follows a young gay man who proposes a green-card marriage with his female friend, in exchange for IVF treatment. A seemingly sweet arrangement that’s also hilarious when I read aloud. Naturally, the plan starts to crumble when their traditional grandmother insists on throwing the newly engaged couple an elaborate wedding banquet. It’s one of those movies where you come for a witty Bowen Yang remark but stay for the feels.

3. Eternity

Stream on Apple TV+

My dear romantasy gals, this one is for you. In an afterlife where souls get just one week to figure out their eternity, Joan has to make the impossible choice: Spend it with the man she spent her life with… or her first love, who died young and has been waiting decades for her to show up. This A24 film is full of famous faces and bittersweet laughs, with a perfect mix of heartache and swoony magic. My chest aches at imagining choosing between Miles Teller and Callum Turner (how could anyone decide?), but thankfully, this fateful decision rests with Elizabeth Olsen’s Joan, not me. Forcing you to consider what real love looks like, it’s a very philosophical movie, but it’s also laced with lots of humor.

4. Palm Springs

Stream on Hulu

This is one of those movies where I watched the trailer—expecting a total cliché—then saw it and was actually surprised at how original it felt. A fresh, hilarious take on the time-loop story, Palm Springs follows two strangers at a wedding—Sarah (Cristin Milioti) and Nyles (Andy Samberg)—who keep living the same day over and over again. Samberg’s wit is, of course, so much fun, and Milioti’s dark comedy roots definitely get their moment in the sun, too. The pair’s chemistry is ridiculously good, and the movie itself is the perfect cozy, laugh-out-loud escape from the winter blues.

5. Oh, Hi

Stream on Netflix

I think I’ve watched this movie four times in the past six months. It’s that fun. Starring Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman, the film follows a couple on their first weekend getaway together. Things seem great… until they aren’t… and boyfriend Isaac (Lerman) admits he’s not really looking for a serious relationship. Leading Iris (Gordon) to extreme lengths to prove that he’s wrong—maybe even accidentally kidnapping him in the process. If your rom-com cravings lean towards offbeat bites, this one is delightfully unique. It’s hilarious, a little twisted, and totally wacky… and somehow, it all absolutely works.

6. Ticket to Paradise

Stream on Peacock

We know and love this duo’s iconic on-screen chemistry, and thanks to the cinema gods, we get a whole rom-com movie dedicated to it. In Ticket to Paradise, Julia Roberts and George Clooney star as divorced parents on a mission to stop their daughter from marrying a seaweed farmer in Bali. As the two scheme to sabotage the wedding and one-up each other, it quickly becomes clear there’s still some spark between them. Watching their daughter’s happiness makes them reflect on what went wrong in their own marriage—and gives us tons of sweet, laugh-out-loud moments to eat up in the process.

7. Lovebirds

Stream on Netflix

If you loved Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey, this more recent take on the “date night thriller” subgenre is just as much fun. On the brink of breaking up, a couple accidentally gets tangled in a bizarre murder mystery. As they race to clear their names, they also have to figure out how—and if—their relationship can survive the night. I threw this one on recently and absolutely loved it. Ironically, it’s the perfect date-night pick—thanks to its fast-paced chaos and feel-good comedy structure.

8. Your Place or Mine

Stream on Netflix

Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher starring in a rom-com together? What year is it? In all seriousness, Your Place or Mine will give you some serious rom-com nostalgia. Debbie and Peter are best friends, but they’re total opposites. While Debbie navigates life as a single mom, Peter lives a fast-paced single life in New York City. When they decide to swap places and lives for a week, they learn that a little change might be exactly what they both needed.

9. Red, White, and Royal Blue

Stream on Prime Video

Romance meets international politics in one of the most highly anticipated book-to-movie rom-coms in years—and honestly, the hype is so well-deserved. Alex Claremont-Diaz is the First Son of the United States, and Prince Henry is part of Britain’s Royal Family. When the two fall in love, they try to keep it a secret from their families and the media, but their attempts only lead to hilariously disastrous and heartwarming results. This one is absolutely worth your time, and feels like the Heated Rivalry plot if it was dressed in political restraints and frosting instead of rival hockey jerseys—but still super sweaty.

10. The Hating Game

Stream on Hulu

Based on the novel of the same name by Sally Thorne, The Hating Game, follows Lucy Hutton and her cold, efficient work nemesis, Joshua Templeton. Their rivalry grows and grows as they work to one-up the other in the workplace, but it gets more and more difficult as their attraction grows. Ah, we will never not be a sucker for a wildly fun enemies-to-lovers trope. Staring Lucy Hale, this movie adaptation is everything we hoped it would be and more, and a great movie night pick to indulge in if you are craving something super sexy and energetic.

11. Love in the Villa

Stream on Netflix

A newly single woman (played by Kat Graham) jets off to Italy on a solo trip, but when she arrives, her villa has been double-booked with a cynical (but sexy) British man. When neither of them is willing to go elsewhere, they make each other’s lives a living hell to see who will crack first and leave the villa. Throughout the chaos, they get to know each other and realize they might not hate each other as much they led on after all. If the rain is pouring down, and you feel like getting cozy with something feel-goody, this is it.

12. The People We Hate at the Wedding

Stream on Tubi

Familiar faces Kristen Bell, Ben Platt, and Allison Janney star in this hilarious movie about a dysfunctional, separated family and the tension that has formed between them. As a chance to reconnect forms, Eloise, the estranged half-sister of Alice and Paul, invites her siblings to her British wedding. With multiple love-gone-wrong storylines in the mix, this movie keeps you on your toes until the very end and will have you wondering if love can indeed prevail when it comes to family.

13. Someone Great

Stream on Netflix

I want to shout it from the rooftops: Someone Great is one of the best movies to be released into the rom-com category! I truly enjoyed this movie so, so much (and have watched it many times since it’s initial release allll the way back in 2019). It’s incredibly funny, heartfelt, diverse, and emotional in all the best places. It’s not your typical rom-com movie—which makes me love it so much more—but is still the perfect movie for a GNI. You’ll laugh, cry, and appreciate your girl squad that much more after watching.

14. Set It Up

Stream on Netflix

Set It Up is another one of those timeless rom-som movies that I truly never get sick of. Whenever I am in the mood for something sweet and funny, visiting Harper and Charlie’s literal boss-level Parent Trap plot always does the trick. The movie follows two overworked assistants in the same building who develop a plan to set their bosses up with each other in an effort to get them off their backs for a bit. And you guessed it, they also start to develop feelings for each other along the way. It’s fun, quirky, and very, very feel-good! Plus, it’s set in New York City like all good romance movies are, so what’s not to love?

15. No Hard Feelings

Stream on Hulu

Jennifer Lawrence stars in this unbelievably funny rom-com in which she plays a broke Uber driver who just lost her car. Desperate for a vehicle and determined to save her house, she agrees to date the high school son of a wealthy couple before he goes to college. What ensues is chaotic and hilarious as she attempts to win over a boy who seemingly has no interest in coming out of his shell. I’m all too familair with Jennifer Lawrence’s charming sense of humor in press interviews, and love that she gets to plug that side of her so loudly in this film. A fantastic watch.

16. Shotgun Wedding

Stream on Prime Video

Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) are all set for their dream destination wedding… that is, until gunmen suddenly crash the party and take their families hostage. Suddenly, the ceremony is on pause, and the couple has to figure out how to survive and save their loved ones. Packed with chaotic family dynamics, unexpected laughs, and sweet romantic moments, this rom-com-thriller hybrid is exactly the kind of wild ride that makes for a super fun girls’ night in.

17. Always Be My Maybe

Stream on Netflix

You’ll find this one atop so many rom-com listicles out there—but for good reason. Always Be My Maybe follows two childhood crushes who went on to lead very different lives reunite after a chance run-in and try to figure out if there is still a connection worth exploring 15 years later—or if their worlds are just too different. Starring comedian Ali Wong, you’re guaranteed to laugh until you cry and fall so helplessly in love with the story of Sasha and Marcus.

18. When We First Met

Stream on Netflix

In a Groundhog Day-style time warp, Noah (Adam Devine) relives the same night over and over, trying to make his best friend—who, in present day, is engaged to another man—fall in love with him and see him more than just a friend. When We First Met does lean into its clichés, but honestly, sometimes that’s exactly the kind of sweet watch that makes a night in feel perfect. You can roll your eyes at the tropes all you want, but this movie knows how to still makes you root—and swoon—for them.

19. Love at First Sight

Stream on Netflix

Airport romances will always make me swoon. Because what do you mean two people just happen to cross eyes at an airport bar after traveling hundreds of miles to meet each other in this moment? There’s just something about it that feels ultra cinematic to the core—and is exactly why stories like Hadley and Oliver stick out among the modern rom-com bunch. When these two strangers meet at the airport, they have no idea that they’re about to fall for one another. However, when they’re seated next to each other on a seven-hour long flight, they spend those seven hours getting to know each other and realizing that they just might have found the perfect person. However, when Hadley unexpectedly loses Oliver’s phone number, she spends her entire visit to England attempting to find him again.

20. Desperados

Stream on Netflix

If you loved Winston and Aly in New Girl, you have to watch Desperados. This is arguably one of the best moves for GNI because it is about three best friends on a mission. After Wesley thinks she’s getting ghosted, she sends a slew of mean drunk texts to the guy she is dating. It turns out, he ended up in an accident in Mexico and wasn’t ghosting her after all. The three girls head for Mexico to delete the texts from his phone before he can see them, but they won’t be able to do it without constantly running into a new handsome man, Sean.
