Avalanche sign Brent Burns to one-year deal

Brent Burns is set for his 23rd season in the National Hockey League.

The 41-year-old posted 35 points (12 goals and 23 assists) in 82 regular-season games for Colorado in 2025-26, then added four assists in 13 playoff games.

Over 1,579 career NHL games with the Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild, Burns has accumulated 945 points (273 goals and 672 assists).

A native of Barrie, Ont., Burns has the second-longest “iron man” streak in NHL history, currently sitting at 1,007 consecutive regular-season games. He’ll enter next season 57 games shy of Phil Kessel’s record (1,064).

Burns was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. His new deal sees him earn a base salary of $850,000, with the potential to max out at approximately $3 million with full bonuses, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
