Neither Denmark nor Ukraine will be featuring at the FIFA World Cup 2026 this summer, with both teams set to drown their sorrows with one last friendly on Sunday. Both these sides fell just short in the UEFA playoffs and failed to qualify for the World Cup finals, which are due to kick off in North America this week.

Sunday’s showdown in Odense will be just the fourth time these nations have met overall. And the record couldn’t be any more evenly split to date, with each team having claimed a single win from their rivalry, along with a solitary draw between the two teams.
The most recent of those encounters was way back in March 2005, however, when Ukraine got the better of the Danes during qualifying ahead of the 2006 World Cup. The Blue and Yellow went on to reach the quarter-finals of that year’s tournament, and another positive result against Denmark may yield more good fortune in the future.
Andrea Maldera will be making his debut at Ukraine’s helm as the first foreign coach to lead the team, while Brian Riemer has assembled a familiar Denmark squad. Rasmus Hojlund may get the nod to lead the Danish line soon after he completed a $40million move to Napoli from Manchester United, having impressed on loan back in Serie A this past season.
