The Golden Knights had built up a four-goal lead thanks to Tomas Hertl and a hat trick by Mitch Marner — the fastest in Stanley Cup Final history.
Marner’s hat trick came in the second period when he scored all three of his goals in a 6:10 period as part of a four-goal barrage from Vegas in the frame.
The four goals ended up chasing Frederik Andersen from the net as Carolina opted to go with Brandon Bussi in the third period.
With their new goalie between the pipes, the Hurricanes came out firing in the third, scoring three goals in 39 seconds, the fastest three goals scored by a single team in a Stanley Cup Final game.
After managing to sustain that flurry for a little while, Andrei Svechnikov then scored a power-play goal with a little under two minutes to play for Carolina, evening the game up at 4-4 and sending it to overtime.
Game 4 goes Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
