Nyara Sabally out as Tempo visit Minnesota to close first road trip

The Toronto Tempo (3-2) will be without forward Nyara Sabally for a second straight game as they close out a four-game road trip against the Minnesota Lynx (2-2), the team announced Thursday.

Sabally, who is dealing with a neck injury, also missed Tuesday’s game when the Tempo edged the Phoenix Mercury 98-90.

Julie Allemand (hip), Temi Fagbenle (shoulder) and Isabelle Harrison (hand) will also be out of the lineup on Thursday as the Tempo search for their third straight win.

The Tempo announced Thursday that they have converted centre Nina Milić to a hardship contract. She had previously signed a developmental contract on May 9 and has appeared in three of Toronto’s five games to start the season.

Veteran guard Brittney Sykes is second in the league with 25.6 points per game, and Marina Mabrey leads the league in three-pointers made with 18. The pair scored a combined 61 of the team’s 98 points on Tuesday and will look to carry a big load again Thursday night.

The Tempo head back to Toronto on Saturday to host the Portland Fire in a battle of the WNBA’s newest expansion franchises. Chatham, Ont., native Bridget Carleton leads the Fire, averaging 16.8 points and 2.4 steals.
