Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Euphoria’ wedding dress designer on the ‘bridezilla’-worthy gown

Cassie Howard’s bridal gown on Season 3 of “Euphoria” has it all — and in this case, that’s not exactly a compliment. HBO

Cassie Howard’s wedding dress is as outrageous as the character herself.

The third episode of “Euphoria” Season 3 sees Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) finally marrying Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), with the bride walking down the aisle in a custom Wiederhoeft gown with a curved corset, thigh-high slit, voluminous train, dramatic veil and plenty of sparkle.

“It felt like it should be really over the top and have probably one too many features — in a way that you could tell her character has such a strong grip, but also is losing her grip at the same time,” designer Jackson Wiederhoeft told Page Six Style exclusively of the “princess-like dream dress,” the biggest their brand has ever created.

Jackson Wiederhoeft was behind the design, telling Page Six Style exclusively about the vision behind the “massive” gown that took them more than a year to make. Fitted up top with the brand’s iconic Wasp corset, the dress flows into a draped skirt hand-embroidered with glass beads. HBO
“[Costume designer] Natasha [Newman-Thomas] and I were leaning slightly more old-school glamour,” Wiederhoeft told us. “With feedback from Melissa Minton Sam [Levinson], the volume went past ten and it was like, ‘I want the high slit, I want the big train … this huge veil, a really low-cut neckline.’” HBO

Incorporating around 160 yards of tulle, the gown was so “massive,” in fact, that Wiederhoeft worried about finding a box big enough to ship it from New York to the HBO show’s set in Los Angeles.

The Parsons grad began working on the look with “Euphoria” costume designer Natasha Newman-Thomas at the end of 2023, with Wiederhoeft trying to get into Cassie’s “deranged mindset” to understand what type of customer she might be.

“It was fun to imagine Cassie as a ‘bridezilla’ in this moment where she just wants, like, way too much,” they said. “It’s a little bit too many design elements. It just goes one step too far … But that’s what was so fabulous about it for Cassie. It feels like she would be the kind of person to push a designer past [the edge].”

Quipped Wiederhoeft, “If she was a client of mine, she would probably be trying to really design the dress herself.”

Wiederhoeft also whipped up a short version of the style for Cassie to wear to the reception. HBO
Cassie’s wedding was as over the top as her gown, with $50,000 worth of flowers alone. Bridesmaids wore bow-trimmed pink dresses, with groom Nate (Jacob Elordi) decked out in a classic tuxedo. HBO

Topped with a version of Wiederhoeft’s signature Wasp corset (which retails for $4,500 on its own), the gown is crafted mostly from Mikado silk, chosen because it’s “super lustrous” and “pretty” with “good bounce.”

Since series creator Sam Levinson gave them permission to turn “the volume past 10,” the corsetry couturier then fashioned an underskirt draped high at the hip and hand-embroidered with glass beads, along with a crinolined underskirt and a “Princess Diana-like” detachable train measuring 20 feet long.

“I probably would never let a client have this dress in real life,” Wiederhoeft admitted. “It’s kind of a fictionalized version of what we do here, for a client who probably would have been a very challenging person to work with.”

When it comes to real-life brides, Swifties have all eyes on Wiederhoeft after Taylor Swift — who is set to wed Travis Kelce this summer — wore a mint green corseted skirt set to the iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Could they be working on a (much more understated) wedding gown for the Grammy winner?

“That would be a dream,” Wiederhoeft demurs. “I don’t know what they have planned, but, you know, we’ll see what happens. I’ll keep praying; I have my family doing the rosary for that one.”
