The 2026 Oscars ceremony had everyone in attendance at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, and all of those watching at home in tears on Sunday night, during the always emotional “In Memoriam” segment to honor all of those who lost their lives over the past year.
This year was especially heartbreaking, with Rob Reiner, Catherine O’Hara, Robert Redford, and so many more honored throughout the video montage.
Before the video rolled, Billy Crystal walked onto the stage to speak about his good friend Rob Reiner, before he was joined by those who have starred in Reiner’s blockbuster hits throughout the years.

When the video began to play at the 98th Academy Awards, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

While honoring Redford, Barbra Streisand appeared on stage to serenade the audience with “The Way We Were.”

“We’ve had an incredibly tough year of losses,” producer Katy Mullan told Variety about the extended montage for Sunday night. “So many cinema titans have passed away, and there are so many people who care so deeply for a lot of the people we’ll be tributing and honoring. That has taken a lot of conversation, a lot of thought, and will continue right up into the show.”
