The Trends Surgeons Secretly Hate

While there are some good trends, unfortunately the world of beauty is still very far from perfect. So while we’re here, we might also talk about the bad and the ugly parts of this industry.

The Temptation of Medical Tourism

High-quality beauty procedures and cosmetic surgeries come at a high price, so naturally people try to find a discount or a more affordable option abroad. And while there are incredible surgeons all over the world, one has to be wary of bargains. If something sounds too good to be true, there’s probably a reason for it.

Low-cost plastic surgery schemes are becoming more prevalent. These places will promise you a seaside vacation and a snatched face for cheap, but a lot of the time that means high risk. Some of these places use fake or photoshopped before-and-after photos, others simply steal the photos from more reputable clinics, and then there are those that will offer you a pretty price but later reveal that the aftercare is not included after the surgery is done.

So please don’t fall for these things—you’ve only got one face. Is it really worth botching it up to save a few bucks?

The “Too Tight” Trend

While we mentioned above that facelifts are on the rise and the trend is for a natural look, it’s not the case 100% of the time. There are still surgeons and clients who are trying to overcorrect and end up looking permanently surprised. It’s all about professional surgeons who know how to set the expectations correctly and deliver great results in the end. You really don’t want to be overzealous with a facelift.

Extreme Plastic Surgery and the Cat-Eye Craze

Back in the day, we complained about photoshopped magazine covers—now it seems like filters have warped some people’s perception of beauty, and there’s such a thing as extreme “snatched” surgery.

People are playing with proportions and exaggerating certain features, be it fox-eyes or alien-looking jawlines—the results are kind of creepy. You might look like you’ve got a permanent TikTok beauty filter on at first, but in a few years’ time gravity will play a very bad trick with that extreme surgery.

Human faces are all unique, but they are balanced in their own way. So when you try to pull them into weird shapes, they will not want to stay that way for long. So if you’re hoping to age gracefully and elegantly, it’s better to stick to the basics instead of shooting for the extremes.

At the end of the day, the best trend in plastic surgery will always be this one: look like yourself—just a little bit better.
