Kim dissed Indian food
In 2012, Kim said she was grossed out by Indian food. Despite throwing this shade, she received a lot of backlash from the public and issued an apology on her blog, explaining that there was “a lot of foods” she didn’t like, including cilantro, peppers, and some Armenian foods she found “disgusting” but that it didn’t reflect her opinions on Armenians or her culture.
The FBI interviewed her as part of an investigation
Like many stars, Kim was tied to fugitive businessman Jho Low who stole billions from a Malaysian sovereign-wealth fund. He often gave stars expensive gifts in order to befriend them. Kim met Low at a Las Vegan nightclub appearance, where they became gambling friends, and he even let her keep $350,000 of his earnings on a night out. He also gave her ex Kris Humphries a $100,000 cash gift. The friendship ended when she began her relationship with Kanye because the rapper felt he “pays for friends.” Though Kim didn’t know where the businessman got his money, she apparently had no issues accepting presents from him regardless.
She was called out for cultural appropriation
Despite her shapewear line experiencing lots of success today, before there was Skims, there was Kimono. When the star revealed the name, she was accused of cultural appropriation, and design industry professional Sono Fukunishi began a petition to get Kim to change the brand name, writing, “I do not wish to share the word with an underwear brand. Kimono means ‘clothing’ in Japanese.” Kim eventually decided to change the name, explaining that the brand was about inclusivity and comfort, and she regretted making people feel uncomfortable.
