Biden approves disaster declaration for Iowa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — President Joe Biden has announced his approval for a major disaster declaration for the state of Iowa, which was affected by tornadoes late last month.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that federal disaster funding can be sent to help recovery efforts in storm-torn areas Iowa, including Harrison County in Siouxland. The move allows the U.S. Small Business Administration and FEMA to provide certain assistance, including replacing damaged items and food.

Iowa congressman Randy Feenstra celebrated the federal assistance in a statement Tuesday.

“Following last month’s devastating tornadoes, I joined Governor Reynolds in calling for immediate relief for Minden and other impacted communities,” the statement reads. “I’m glad that President Biden today answered our call and approved federal support to help our families and communities rebuild. I will continue to stand with our neighbors in Minden and our communities in Southwest Iowa as they recover.”

Along with Harrison County, federal funding will be available to affected people in Clarke, Mills, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby and Union counties.
