Post Malone has been one of the biggest stars in music for more than half a decade now. After that much time, it’s natural that any artist would want to experiment and try new things. After veering more into pop than the hip-hop sound that brought him to prominence, the superstar is now looking to conquer a new frontier: country.

Post Malone Has Officially Started His Transition From Hip-Hop To Country

The singer-songwriter earns his first placement on one of Billboard’s country charts this week. The song “Pickup Man,” first made popular by Joe Diffie, is back on the Country Airplay tally this frame, ranking as one of the most successful cuts at country radio in the U.S. The track opens at No. 57 on the 60-spot list, fronted by Diffie and featuring Malone.

“Pickup Man” serves as a tribute, as Diffie passed away in 2020 due to Covid-19. Malone joined country favorites Morgan Wallen and Hardy to perform the track at the recent CMA Awards more than a week ago. The tune was quickly picked up by a number of radio stations that focus on country music, and according to data shared by Luminate, the cut racked up 826,000 impressions.

Malone earns his first hit on a country chart this week, but it might not be his last. The singer has been hinting at a crossover for some time now, as his hip-hop and pop output hasn’t been performing as well as it has in the past.

The Grammy nominee is set to perform at next year’s Stagecoach Music Festival, which is known as one of the top events in the country genre. He will reportedly showcase a set filled with covers of country hits, and it might include his version of “Pickup Man.” Malone hasn’t actually announced a country album of his own, but one will likely be forthcoming, following this quick success in the field.
