Musketeers claim 2-0 series lead with 3-1 win over Lincoln in USHL Western Conference semis

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA (KCAU) – The Sioux City Musketeers fed off its strong start to the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs, netting a pair of goals in the second period over the Lincoln Stars on Saturday night towards the 3-1 win in Game Two for a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference semifinals.

Kaden Shahan got the scoring started in the first period, scoring glove side from the left circle for his 40th goal of the season to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead after one period of play. Goals were harder to find in the second period until Hagen Burrows connected on the third shot attempt with a rebound score in the crease for a 2-0 advantage.

The Stars responded five minutes later as Matt Maltais put through a deflected goal to trim their deficit to 2-1. But the Muskies didn’t lose their mojo as they made the most of a power play opportunity soon after, ending with Ty Hanson knifing in a goal from the crease for the 3-1 lead and eventual Game Two victory.

Sioux City completes the road sweep and returns home to the Tyson Events Center for the remainder of the Western Conference semifinal Best-of-Five series. The Muskies now sit one win away from the series sweep.

Puck drop for Game Three set for 7:05pm on Monday night.
