Local organizations hosting free home ownership workshop

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — To kick off a partnership between Siouxland Habitat for Humanity and NAACP – Sioux City, the organizations are hosting a free home ownership workshop.

According to a release, the partnership is intended to help bridge the gap between economic equity and racial equity. Starting with a workshop on Wednesday, May 1, at Kingdom Ministries on Military Road.

The release states that the workshop will expand the audiences served by Siouxland Habitat for Humanity and provide new opportunities and education across the organization’s service area.

“We are joyful over this new partnership with the local chapter of the NAACP,” Executive Director for Siouxland Habitat for Humanity Shayla Becker said. “We look forward to this and future endeavors with them, championing efforts to build capacity for more safe, decent, and affordable homes right here in Siouxland.”

The NAACP highlighted the importance of this partnership by stating that economic equity is crucial to racial equity. Additionally, the release states that an inclusive economy means everyone can contribute and earn with fair access to resources and opportunities.

The workshop is open to the public and will feature an informational session, a Q&A, and a community fellowship.
