Couple killed in crash in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, Neb. (KCAU) — A husband and wife died after a two-vehicle crash in Wayne County, Neb. on Sunday night.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a man was driving west on Highway 35. He was stopped at 566th Avenue, about 5 miles southwest of Windside, and planned to turn south onto the road. A Honda trike which was also heading west hit the man’s vehicle from behind, the sheriff’s office said.

The trike’s driver, Jerry Sievers, and the passenger, his wife Karen Sievers, were thrown off the trike. When the sheriff’s office responded to the crash at about 7:45 p.m., both were declared dead.

A passenger in the turning vehicle was taken to a hospital in Norfolk with minor injuries, where they were treated and released.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was helped by the Nebraska State Patrol, the Nebraska Department of Transportation, and several local volunteer fire departments. The sheriff office’s investigation closed part of Highway 35 for about two hours.

The investigation into the crash is still underway.
