On February 20, Olsson was rushed to hospital after collapsing at home.

Doctors placed him on ventilators after they found an ‘acute disease related to the brain’.

His club Midtjylland have not released a statement on the 28-year-old’s condition, who came up through the academy at Arsenal.

“The diagnosis matches the thesis on which the medical specialists have so far worked and treated Kristoffer,” a Midtjylland statement read.

“Kristoffer Olsson’s condition is now considered stable and the doctors continue to see some progress.

“At the same time, they feel that Kristoffer’s level of consciousness is increasing.

“In the coming period, the doctors will slowly try to phase the Swedish midfielder out of the ventilator.

“But he remains in intensive care and it is not yet possible to say anything about the treatment’s time frame and final prognosis.”

Olsson, who has made 47 caps for Sweden, was part of Arsenal’s academy after joining in 2011 before coming up through the ranks.

He made one appearance for the Gunners, coming off the bench for Isaac Hayden in a League Cup game against West Brom.

The match went to penalties as the Swede converted his spot-kick to help send Arsenal through to the next round.

He left north London for Midtjylland in 2014 on loan before joining them permanently the following year.

The midfielder has had further stints in Sweden, Russia and Belgium before returning to Midtjylland in 2022, again on loan before joining permanently in 2023.
