A medical incident occurred during first team training in front of concerned players and coaches.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Crystal Palace wrote: “Unfortunately, today’s press conference will no longer take place as scheduled as Roy Hodgson was taken ill during this morning’s training session.”

Later on in the day, the Eagles issued another statement to say: “Following news that Roy Hodgson was taken ill during today’s training session, we can confirm that he is now stable and is currently undergoing tests in hospital.

“Everybody at the club sends their best wishes to Roy for a speedy recovery.”

Hodgson’s press conference was to preview Crystal Palace’s next fixture against Everton which takes place on Monday night – exclusively live on talkSPORT.

Palace have since confirmed the 76-year-old will not be well enough to take charge, with assistants Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy currently on standby.

Just five points separate the Eagles from the drop zone with Everton in 18th place, meaning Monday’s match could be pivotal at Goodison Park.

Hodgson is on the brink of the sack at Selhurst Park after a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night.
