Candice Warner has ducked a bouncer on national television when she dodged questions about the mystery surrounding the Baggy Green caps belonging to her cricket star husband David Warner.

While the hoopla surrounding Warner’s retirement and final Test match at the SCG last week might be over, there has been no solid answer to what happened to his prized headgear when it went missing, then resurfaced.

The prolific opener, who starred in all three formats of the game, took to Instagram after both of his prized playing caps went missing from his backpack en route from Melbourne to Sydney.

Warner was missing both his first Baggy Green plus the replacement he received after misplacing the original ahead of the 2017 Test tour of Bangladesh.

David Warner took to social media to appeal for the return of his prized caps ahead of the Sydney Test, his last match for Australia in the long form of the game

‘Unfortunately somebody has taken my backpack out of my luggage which had my backpack and my girls’ presents in there,’ Warner said ahead of the SCG Test.

‘Inside this backpack was my baggy green. It’s sentimental to me. It’s something I’d love to have in my hands walking out there this week.

‘If it’s the backpack you really wanted, I have a spare one here. You won’t get into trouble.

‘Please reach out to Cricket Australia or myself via my social media. I’m happy to give this to you if you return my baggy greens.’

Just before the Test commenced, the Baggy Green caps appeared, but Warner did not give any details about where they had been or who had taken them.

Candice also side-stepped the mystery when she appeared on Channel Seven’s Sunrise on Friday morning.

Former IronWoman Candice and her daughters were on the show to promote a beach safety campaign along with her daughters and was sticking tightly to the script.

‘It is always busy in the Warner household whether it be with the cricket or whether we are down at the beach like we are today for Nutri Grain and Surf Life Saving Australia,’ she said.

Host Monique Wright then asked her about cricket – and the mystery of the missing Baggy Greens.

‘Gosh, it was exciting last week as we were following David’s last week. Of course, a bittersweet week,’ she said.

‘Then we rode the wave of emotion about the missy Baggy Greens. I could only imagine what was happening for you Candice. What happened to those Baggy Greens?’

After a brief pause, Candice responded: ‘It’s always busy in our household, especially the last week. It was an unbelievable week. A week of reflection and just celebration for us.

‘That is a question for security management. At the end of the day he got his Baggy Greens back and that is the main thing.’

Co-host Matt Doran was not letting her off the hook so easily, though.

‘Oh Candice, you’ve got to forgive me probing a little bit more. Australia is captivated by this mystery, can you give us any sense of what went on?’ he asked.

But Candice played his question back with a perfect flat bat her husband would be proud of.

‘Again, like I said, that is up to management and stuff like that. But we are here today for Nutri Grain and for Surf Life Saving Australia and the girls cannot wait for this weekend’s racing at Maroubra Beach.’

David had previously issued a statement on the re-appearance of his Baggy Green caps, but was light on details.

‘Hi everyone, I am very pleased and relieved to let you all know that my baggy greens have been found, which is great news,’ he announced on Instagram.

‘Thanks to all involved and I am extremely grateful. Qantas, the freight company, our hotels and team management. Thank you.’
