Pep Guardiola is often labelled as the world’s best manager but for Simon Jordan, that tag should be reserved for Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss oversaw an underwhelming campaign last season as his side’s fifth-placed league finish saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.

But the dip appears to be a short-lived one with the Reds sitting pretty at the top of the table and one have foot in next month’s Carabao Cup final.

Guardiola led Manchester City to a historic Treble last season and has one eye on leading City to an unprecedented fourth-consecutive Premier League title.

Liverpool appear to be the most likely challengers to City’s crown and Jordan believes the Reds’ success is down to Klopp, who he credits as the best manager in football.

“They’ve [Liverpool] got a manager that to me, I think, is the best manager, if not close to it in world football,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “I know that the statistics will tell you that it’s Pep.” Guardiola is.

When asked whether Klopp was a superior manager to the Spaniard, Jordan replied: “Well if he had the same resources as Pep I think he might have achieved the same things. “

Jordan lifted the lid on his favoured style of play between the two managers, claiming Klopp’s Liverpool are more likely to have him on the edge of his seat than City’s possession-based approach.

“The argument will be, ‘what style of football do you like to watch?’, ” the former Crystal Palace owner continued.

“I like to watch Liverpool’s style of football more than I like to watch Manchester City’s.

Mark Goldbridge on Premier League title-chasing Liverpool and Arsenal, and gives his verdict on whether anyone can topple Manchester City

“I just like a more dynamic style of football rather than this overwhelming destruction of other sides by passing them to an almost near standstill.

“The nature of Manchester City’s football whilst beautiful on the eye, isn’t quite as exciting as the dynamic explosion Liverpool often produce and that’s just a personal choice.

“I think Klopp is a brilliant manager. He’s now back in the groove and back in most press conferences saying things that are sensible and not constantly indulging himself in what they do and don’t have and how unfortunate it is for them.

“I think he’s an outstanding manager.”
