Mike Vrabel joked that Tom Brady couldn’t attend his Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony because he ‘probably has some cosmetic event planned’, as the Titans head coach roasted his former New England teammate ahead of this weekend’s event.
Ahead of formalities in Foxborough on Saturday, Vrabel – a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Pats’ – told 98.5 WBZ-FM in Boston: ‘Tom texted and said congrats and I’m guessing that means he won’t be able to attend.’
That’s when the former linebacker, who retired after the 2009-2010 season, quipped that Brady ‘probably has some cosmetic event planned’ and ‘won’t be able to make it on Saturday morning.’
The 48-year-old added that he and Brady enjoyed some good times together while playing on the same team for eight seasons, but made fun of the seven-time Super Bowl champion for ‘getting soft’ ever since he left the Northeast in 2008.
‘I texted him and said, ”Remember when you used to be ruthless and it was just all that crap talking back and forth?”’ Vrabel said. ‘That’s just why we loved to come to practice every day and work.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel couldn’t resist a dig at Tom Brady, his former teammate, ahead of his induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Saturday morning
Brady & Vrabel played for New England from 2001-2008 and won three Super Bowls together
It was speculated in August of 2022 that Brady had ditched his Bucs’ teammates for 11 days to go under the knife for cosmetic or plastic surgery, but was in fact trying to save his marriage
‘Guys would be on the show team and talking back and forth just competing and practicing. I was like…”when did you change?”’
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick also revealed details of dynamics at practice when Vrabel and Brady were still donning red, white and blue, ahead of Saturday’s event.
‘(Vrabel) was the kind of guy that at practice would take reps at every position, free safety, strong safety, occasionally defensive line. If there was a certain player we were trying to replicated, he would jump in there and do that,’ said the longest-serving head coach in NFL history.
‘It was competitive, especially with him and [Tom] Brady, quite entertaining at times, to be honest with you.
‘Mike had a great personality, great love for the game, passionate, high energy, very strong.’

Vrabel and Brady were competitive at practice, according to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick
Throughout their eight seasons in New England together, from 2001-2008, Brady and Vrabel won three Super Bowls.
More recently, it was widely speculated in August of 2022 that Brady had spent 11 days away from his Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates because he had gone under the knife for some type of plastic or cosmetic surgery, that same month.
It’s now been reported that Brady was actually trying to fix his 13-year marriage with his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen, at the time.
Since retiring for a second time (and ‘for good’) last year, Brady has remained out of the spotlight, although he plans to be Fox’s lead NFL analyst next season, and he’s also attempting to purchase a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.
As for Vrabel, his Titans are in danger of finishing last of the AFC South, behind the Jaguars, Colts and Texans, after falling 2-4 overall ahead of their bye week.
Tennessee will next play at home against the Atlanta Falcons on October 29.
